The Prophet
the prophet arose from his prayers and scanned the horizon "they will be here soon" two hours or so to moonrise with little protection in sight and with no direction in mind he raised a bit of dust and let it sift through his fingers a slight breeze blew the dust to his front and a bit to his left with a final deep breath he moved in that direction towards a far bluish mountain. near dark he came upon a 10 foot deep arroyo. the prophet discovered a rock overhang for shelter and a small clear stream...he could do without food for the time being as he had fasted many times. the night proved cold and uneventful save the scurryings of small animals in the sparse brush...he could not chance a fire lest his assailants are lying close by. the day came in bright and clear heating up quickly with the rising of the sun. the prophet filled his water bag and slung it over his shoulder. he climbed up and peered over the edge of the gully in all directions and saw no dust clouds or movements save several large birds winging toward the far bluish mountain. the terrain was flat and still so the prophet eased himself out and stood for a moment looking again for any sign of movement...seeing and sensing none he started out in an easy gait toward the far bluish mountain and whatever lay in store for him.
