I will tipple a drink in my kitchen with thee, Where I have made egg nog for this annum, Nutmeg and meringue floating in a sea-sized cut-glass bowl. Others are on horses in parades, Oh, the glitz and the color all charade; For underneath all the symbols of the day, The wise men are bearing gifts. My eggnog in my kitchen is a wise-man’s gift; Through me, an offering to Him through his children; Through centuries, copied unknowingly, My version of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. Carols waft from choir voices, Charading the angels of yore. UPS and Amazon are shepherds this night, Searching where the Christ Child might lay. The mail box is full of bright envelopes, Asking for wise men’s gifts, and So if you can, return their desires, Giving gives the giver such a lift. My house for this day is a stable, For my thoughts are the spirit of my Savior; If your heart is beating in celebration for Him, He, I believe, is smiling down on you. We may do it wrong, do it in excess, materialize, But if we offer it to Him with hearts of appreciation; And thankfulness we have not capacity to express, Except through pittances, by comparison, of love to each other. Come and celebrate with me! Love to all – Merry Christ’s Mass
