He noticed me and then toward me he ran. My heart was in my throat, for I could see sheer terror in his face. I thought to flee, for no conception did I have of why the stranger staggered straightaway toward me, and then he gave a loud ungodly cry! I thought him piteous as he drew near and nearer still! Another wave of fear engulfed me. I saw his hair and shirt were bloodstained! Oh, what had brought him here? It dawned on me – he had to have been hurt. No danger was I in! I saw instead a man in peril bleeding from the head. The blood was oozing scarlet down his face. The smoke from my chimney must have led him to the threshold of my tiny place. I made my mind up quickly, and I let him in. Then he collapsed! I had to get him help, but since the hospital was far away, I drove him. He was badly hurt, yet he would survive. That man had crashed his car! Oct. 5, 2017 For Laura Loo's Rhyme Time with 5 Contest Five words used: dismal, conception, piteous, threshold, and bloodstained.
