A DISCOUNT May I share the story of a man Who for a maiden emptied his barn And for clarity her name is Anne And her hair smooth like yarns May I share the story of my kinsman Who for a maiden traded a cow for a lantern And for clarity her name is Anne Yet my story just began So here goes the story of this young man That wants a girl for to make a woman And for clarity sake proceeded to woo Anne Who placed on him high demands She wants ostrich feathers for hand fan And to be treated like the goddess Diane She wants new wine for her entire clan And new pair of wrappers for her gran But my very dear kinsman Indeed made haste and made plans To part with all so he could earn her hand And to possess the rest of her life span So he sold his land and his barn And strove to fulfill her demands And all these he did for to make her a woman But most of all to be called a real man So the money left was used to wed Anne And their union blessed by old gran But on that night when man and woman Fulfil the duty that nature demands He found that the girl had long been a woman And her flowers already plucked by someone So he calls out to her parents and gran And tells sadly how he's not the first man He says "no blood on the bed spread Not even on a spot is it colored red I can't find a drop if I dared to count I paid too much; I demand a discount!!"
