Nobody Told Me Anything
Nobody from command radioed me, nobody sent an encrypted sat signal thru My superiors data downloaded me nothing, I received not one order on what next to do Lowly grunts like me don’t decide on their own; take actions into our drone hands, and formulate an alternative plan That’s for the shoulder bars and stars up top to do, us bottom-of-the-boot grunts we just follow orders thru Us ground dirt dogs do what the top cats tell us to do, being bottom of the military food chain, this ain’t nothing new Make it so, as the captain would say — we set the gears in motion, put the strategic plan in play But after the parachute drop behind enemy lines, we had a major snafu Encountered unforseen resistance that we didn’t anticipate to find We got shredded to pieces, cut down ... so many secret mission soldiers dead on the ground Every CO caught a bullet ride to the grave; and the few of us still alive, don’t know how the mission’s gonna be saved Now I can’t raise anybody on the horn, only dead air silence is coming thru Nobody told me anything, in a situation this desperate what to do We’re low on ammo, we’re low on food Mutiny is about to set in, so what’s a grunt, thrust in command, supposed to do? I try to act brave, order the men to forge ahead — tell ‘em lets get the job done But, I can sense they don’t have suicide eyes, and at the first chance they’re gonna run Nobody told me anything, no one showed me what to do When there’s an act of desertion, do I warn first or do I shoot? On this one way mission, come nightfall, we’ll reach our target when we go over the hill Can’t carry into battle wounded, coward deserters, so my survival instincts says, I have to shoot to kill
