Swim Baby Swim
A great burden is lifted off my head A day ago I thought I was dead My spirit was hurting my soul was aching But the lights in my car reminded that I was alive I kept going and pretending to be cool But I could not deny this undesirable mood From whence did this feeling appear It must have been connected to a soul who is so dear I was up and about the entire night Listening to every fight and contention Piecing together a master plan To escape from this dirty stinking land I could see every action and hear every sound and even the worms stirring in my neighbor's belly crying out for food they must have been hungry But today something spectacular happen I drove to the park in the boiling sun looking for a place where I could have some fun I walked along the dusty track and climbed over a fortified fence and sat down on a bench beside the river For a moment everything was quite except for the cardinal and its companion squeaking on the other side I tried to take its picture but it glanced at me and flew away I left my keys on top of the bench and sat on a rock by the river The water was crystal clear and I could see everything far and near I started to hum a familiar tune and all of a sudden A school of fish swam towards me listening They lifted my broken spirit and kept my company The more I sing the more they gather It was a miracle in this hot weather I know that fish respond to music but not a voiced sound that was so loud I have had a similar experience before While picnicking with friends by the lake My German friend played the flute so well attracting hundreds of golden fish to the shore But today it wasn't the flute that brought them to the surface They heard my voice and it touched their soul.
