Beggar In Sandals
When next I visit the temple My eyes will look for a girl among the ample With a bowl in hand for begging But in sandals and legging Sandals I zeroed in on But from my possession gone After trying a couple of them I chose the ones with expensive gem I chose a pair so exquisite Expensive though but picked for formal visit But I told myself Why not pamper yourself For some while I backed Ultimately I got them packed Back in the car We headed home from bazaar Musing I'll wear to a next get together A time to flaunt them when friends gather On our way back my son Heaved a sigh of relief that the job was done He stopped in front of a temple Of virtues he's an example He went in and I closed my eyes to pray Excited that I'll wear them the next day The moment I opened them, it did dawn I found my sandals gone My son gave them to a beggar dame He said she was lame I looked but couldn't see such it was night , back in car I told him they cost so much He reminded me it was a Saturday It was not an auspicious day To pick leather I said their weight was of a feather I was thunderstruck I cried and thought of spent buck And thought did I pick this pair For that girl who wouldn't care My loss ended in her gain For this gesture of my son The energy spent was of no fun I learnt a lesson in a hard way I'll pick a similar pair the next day. Next if I pick something As of now my search will be on for that girl who came upon Just once I'll like to see her Of course I'll pick a pair similar.
