Alone
She had been alone never trusting always wishing. She’d come across too many people. She led with her heart and receive betrayal. Who could she trust now? Who would return her love and her trust? And not violate it mercifully? So she shut out the world walking, traveling alone. No one gets hurt if you don’t open yourself up. But then life can be lonely so lonely. Then there was a knock on the door she refused to open up but it persisted. Someone kept knocking, she knew the knock would continue until she received it until she received whomever. As she opens up he came on in then showed her life didn’t have to be this way. That if he loved her someone else would. That if she could trust in him he would always be there for her. But then her thoughts were, ‘how could anyone be that kind, be that trustworthy?’ People had long since devoid her trust in them. But his persistence was touching, overwhelming even. He spoke of things only she knew and there was a peace, a real peace. He gave her his word that she’ll never be alone and that he’ll walk with her all the days of her life. What he told her brought tears to her eyes, she felt healing of her heart like she’d never felt before. Old wounds were beginning to heal and there was a light where darkness and hopelessness had been. He then followed her to the kitchen and they ate supper. After supper, he left just as quick as he came. And she was never alone again.
