Gulp
Gulp! I wonder aloud where others can’t listen, so I can keep my thoughts in a row About a girl, up on the fourth floor, a heaven sent beauty that I’d like to know Merely a daydream, for I am nobody, least not the kind that she’d ever see Sort of a nerd, not very handsome, down in the mailroom, just plain old me But I can’t help it, I find her amazing, hair chocolate brown, lips rosy pink And when she smiles my heart goes a flutter, I start feeling faint or close to the brink I’m just afraid if she says something to me, gives me a nod, knows I am there I’d merely mumble, do something stupid, frozen in fear, stand there and stare Probably shiver, break out in a sweat, act like a dork, well that’s nothing new She is an angel and I am a loser, so I shouldn’t worry, that won’t come true Time to get busy, the minutes are passing, I’m on a schedule and I better start I straighten my tie, my pocket protector, sort through the mail and load up my cart Start my deliveries, I do them in order The closer I get, more nervous I feel I try to be cool but that isn’t working, my pulse it is racing, that I can’t conceal I’m almost finished, just hers are remaining Her office is next, I step in real slow Set down the letters don’t want to disturb her, when she looks up and then says “hello…” Gulp!
