Shirley's Confusion
Shirley’s Confusion Little Shirley, back in the Thirties, Was told by her Mom to be nice. “You’ll catch more flies with honey, dear” Was Momma’s sage advice. Shirley was bewildered, didn’t want to catch flies, Still she smiled and rolled her eyes. Spit on her Mary Janes to make them shine, She cried a little to no one’s surprise. Then Daddy said, Shirley, “You gotta scratch backs, If you scratch theirs, they gotta scratch back.” Shirley being her Daddy’s girl, Set in to give his advice a whirl. Now her back is sore, her skin is raw, And there’s skin under her finger nails. Poor Shirley has tried so hard to please, Where will be the end of this tale? She loves her parents with all her heart, Doesn’t understand them at all, Thinks their advice is not her grace, She’s joining the Army this fall.
