A Lost Treasure Found Again
When I was but a little girl A treasured book became our pearl A gift from an English girl next door For my sister and me, ‘twas much more The cover tattered, the pages well worn And when ‘twas lost, we were so forlorn. For many years, we’ve remembered it so Rupert’s Adventures would never slow We could still see his little sweet face As to the woods each morning he’d race With Bill, the badger, his special friend They’d never be old; the fun never end. When we were both in our final years We often looked back with joy and tears You see, tho the book of our youth was lost I found another just like it at great cost A gift for my sister like none other before A Rupert book from nineteen forty-four. Tho it’s not the original one we had To have another like it made her glad We still feel the same as we read on That feeling we had will never be gone Rupert has been in our life, don’t you see We still love him so, my sister and me! 10/25/16 For the Old Jewelry or Just Old Things contest
