Julie
She's the tiger in a goat pen in this sleepy Southern town I've surely loved her with devotion since I was only ten Her passing horse kicks red dust clouds as she rides him slowly down From the mountains 'bove this valley where we've lived since way back when She turns the horse toward me and she approaches with a smile She speaks my name in greeting then she pauses as if in thought And tells me that she weds tomorrow then lets it rest awhile Then she softly tells me that all along it was me she sought Chorus She said,"You could have had me Any time and any place It was just you I could see Through these tears upon my face Your shyness has brought sorrow And we missed what might have been I wed upon the morrow And these thoughts must be a sin," The mountains crowd around me now and I look for some way out Her name was Julie and it seems to echo throughout these hills Young men leave our settled ways to see what this life's all about In search of laughter and romance and along the way some thrills And I should join the search for something better that might follow I'm driven for a better life and for things I've never known But Julie echoes through the hills and she lives in that hollow And nothing more is said of that and I've nothing of my own Chorus She said,"You could have had me Any time and any place It was just you I could see Through these tears upon my face Your shyness has brought sorrow And we missed what might have been I wed upon the morrow And these thoughts must be a sin," October 4, 2016
