Glory and the Lamb
Glory and The Lamb 30/9/16 I was a lamb, not yet a sheep but I was there, yes I was there. Where were you little lamb? I was out in the beautiful wide open spaces our home was not far from the city. It was in a field I was born, and skipped about, staying close beside my mother. What did you see little lamb? It was there on the darkest of nights that the heavens awoke, a bright light shone and from this light came a magnificent being, an angel of the Lord of all appearing in great splendour, and from him emanated glory spreading to include us all. How did you feel little lamb? Totally stunned and the shepherds who looked after us were afraid, terribly frightened, I remember staying still, looking up, amazed. We did not make a sound.. no bleating came. What did the angel say, little lamb? He spoke beautifully, so as to calm, he reassured us all, telling us not to be afraid for he was bringing us wonderful news that was for us, to cause us joy and not just for us but for everyone. He spoke of the Saviour, the Messiah, the Lord God who had come into our world, being born a babe and this had just happened, in Bethlehem, the city nearby, the city of our past great king David. Is that all he said little lamb? Oh, No! He told us most exactly where the baby could be found and how we would recognize Him. This Saviour, the Great, "I AM", had been born in a stable, a place for animals, and was lying in a manger, the feeding trough, wrapped up snuggly in bits of cloth, swaddling clothes, for the night was cold. Then what happened little lamb? It was sudden and glory was added to glory, this angel was joined by a vast host of others, bright with light and song, a beautiful massive heavenly choir, singing gloriously from their hearts this amazing message, "Glory to God in the highest heavens, peace on earth to all whom God favours Give glory to God in heaven and on earth let there be peace to the people who please God". What were you doing while this was happening little lamb? Listening to this amazing message ringing out across the hills watching, as did our shepherds, with the same astounded faces. I skipped for joy so high I skipped over my mum. It was such a beautiful all-encompassing sight with sound that filled my heart. How long did it last little lamb? Oh, that I do not know but it came to an end and they had all gone. Our shepherds got together to discuss what had happened and what to do. They quickly agreed that we should all go and see this wonderful thing that had happened which the Lord had told us about. Did you really go and see little lamb? Oh Yes! We all ran behind our shepherds and found it all as we had been told. As we crowded into the animal house, the stable, there was Mary and Joseph and there was the baby, lying in the feeding trough, the manger. What next did you do little lamb? We followed our shepherds as they told everyone they met in the village about these amazing things and also about all that the angel had said. .....I was a lamb, not yet a sheep but I was there, yes I was there.
