Waiting For the Man, 9 11
When the attacks on the towers began I was sicker than sick, and waiting for the man Bodies fell on bodies, stone fell on stone ‘Welcome to the Orange answer phone’ When the force of the second plane hit I was rushing to the toilet for a sick man’s shit ‘Tis in an ill wind on which the devil is blown ‘Welcome to the Orange answer phone’ When the first, then the second tower fell I was burning in the fires of a self-created hell Clouds of confetti swirling dark with ash and bone ‘Welcome to the Orange answer phone’ He answered the phone, in the end, as they do By then the dust had settled, and the sky shone blue I turned off the telly, picked up me dosh and ran Because nothing really matters When you’re waiting for the man © Gail Foster 11th September 2016
