Pebbles
there are many times when i find myself barefoot in my backyard walking through the grass with no shoes on and i can smell the neighbors burning their morning waffles into hard pieces of rock because their waffle maker has been broken for three months now and they can't get a new one because they need to save up for a good preschool for little abigail who is turning 3 soon and i can tell this story in my head every morning when i find myself in my backyard barefoot walking through the grass. and sometimes i find myself in a bad dream and the waffles that were burned to a rock have turned into hot pebbles that burn my feet as i walk across them barefoot and the neighbors never got that new waffle maker so every morning they have to feed little abigail burnt breakfast and she never got into the nice preschool because she can't read correctly and years later they find out its because she has dyslexia and the poetry she is going to write will be words no one can scribe and she lives in her little world alone and every morning she walks to school barefoot on hot pebbles because the waffle maker is still broken. and when i get dreams like this it is good for me to go into my backyard and listen to the conversations my neighbors have and its good to hear abigail's father read stories to her and its good to walk barefoot and not feel pebbles.
