Tiny Dreams
It was 6.15, in the morning, I was in a deep sleep, The rising sun pierced the thatched roof and made my skin burn, I wrapped the blanket tight - no use it was full of holes, Oops! I woke up screaming and tried to hide the rays with my tiny hands, Enough of playing wake up, my mom shouted But how? I had made my bed wet, The floor is wet and my blanket too, What if my mom sees me without my underwear? I started to search my underwear which I unfurled last night, It was lying near the broken cot, I peeped through the window My mom was fighting with the earthen stove and rigs , I looked around, my little sister was lying on the floor I immediately transferred her to my bed, I pinched her and she started to wail, My mom came running, she found the bed and blanket wet, She lifted the baby, But to her surprise my sister was clean and dry, In great wonder she clenched her on her hip and went for her routine, Narrow escape, I ran to the backyard to attend my nature’s call, It was 7.00, I heard my mom shouting, Why so long? Stomach upset ma, My mom fetched water from the well Now take bath - she left me to see the tiny fishes and admire the nearby bushes, Did you finish your bath - Ah! The bucket was empty, Where did the water go ? It was the crack on the side which drank all the water slowly, I ran to the pond nearby – jumped in joy, I was glad to see the buffaloes bathing with me, I started to scratch their back with coir – it was great fun, The lily and lotus buds surrounded by buffaloes and me, The hot sun and cool water – I was in a dream land, Ding dong, the school bell - oh my god! Eight - now how many thrashes I ran to my hut – my mom was still fighting with the mud stove, Wow! Again narrow escape – I went straight to my house, searched for my clothes in a gunny bag, Red no button, blue no zip, pink already torn, I was left only with a green shirt and grey trouser I took my bag – Amma am feeling hungry? She gave a bowl full of porridge, Amma! even yesterday I had only this, So what? – she frowned and took a stick, In a fraction of second the bowl was empty, She carried my sister in one hand and caught me in other, It was 8.15 again school bell rang Even today you are late – my mom yelled, The whole street was crowded with students dressed in blue and white, Except me, Come fast, you are already late, yelled the Tea master.
