The Good Fight
Who am I to say how my husband should spend the last years of his life? Who am I to try to hold his spirit down and keep him from flying? He's spent a lifetime trying to help all the wrong people for all the right reasons He's seen the destruction and turmoil the life of an addict can wreak on their family and if he wants to spend up his precious energy helping the right people for the right reason, then who am I to say no, you can't my love, because I want you all to myself... I'm just the wife who fought by you, fought for you, and with you against your demons and believed in you even when you didn't believe in yourself And now that you do, who am I to stop you from being the wonderful, giving, loving man I married all those years ago. I will not clip your wings and say no, you can't fly I will not become another obstacle for you to overcome in your fight to live the last of your days in dignity and freedom, in the way you have always lived.. ...full throttle and face in the wind... I am still here beside you, and I will fight with you in every battle you choose to fight until there is no fight left within your dying body, and then, ......I will still be there for you... for even death will not keep us apart my Love.
