Sliver of a Soul
Green, blue, brown, and gold. Soft, harsh, warm, and cold. Truly a beautiful window to the soul, Making visible a part, if not the whole. Happy, sad, joyous, gloom. Sometimes empty; a vacant room. Shrouded with shadows or crystal clear. Keeping one distant or drawing one near. Weaving tales for those who read. Whispering emotions of which to heed. Nervous, shifty, calm, and collected. Carefree, open, distant, and protected. Gazing too long makes a history known. Gazing too long reveals your own. Sending and receiving, swiftly swapping stories, Telling of a past with both failures and glories. But merely looking at a window does not mean you truly see, For what lies on the other side might only an illusion be. Time and again, it has been seen to be true. People hide sadness with a smile, despite a heart that is blue. And though it may not be always, an attentive person finds, That sometimes behind the brightest eyes lay shattered remains of the most broken minds.
