The Sandbox
I loved playing in the sandbox alone While Mom made dinner. I built sand castles and destroyed them Over and over again. While Mom made dinner one night I heard a noise in the usually calm woods Over and over again. An old, enchanting man emerged from behind offering his hand to me. Then I heard another noise in the usually calm woods And it said, “Come, follow me, child.” Another old, enchanting man emerged offering his hand to me And all Mom found that night was my shoe. A voice said, “Come, follow me, child.” I willingly let them lead me away. All Mom found that night was my shoe And I never played in the sandbox again. I loved playing in the sandbox alone. I built sand castles and destroyed them. A voice said, “Come, follow me, child.” And all Mom has left of me was the shoe she found that night. And I never played in a sandbox again.
