Jd and the Lawyer
J.D. and the Lawyer J.D.’s a cowboy’s cowboy, ain’t no doubt Knows aplenty what this world’s about. Born on a hoss – never seen him fall That’s why what he did surprised us all. Some lady attorney moved into town, Just outta school the rumors went round She was a looker, so said all the boys Came from back East, loaded with poise. When J.D. saw her, was love at first sight He’d make him a plan, do this up right. He saddled two horses, Red and Mabel, Packed a bottle, Jack Daniels Black Label. Rode up to her door, said, “I am J.D.” Would you come see Texas with me? She said,”Why J.D. I won’t be coy, Been wanting to meet a real cowboy.” They rode up high to his favorite lake Saw the West as only God can make. He spread his blanket to be his table Got two glasses and his Black Label. She said,” I usually drink some wine, But I find Black Jack suits me fine. They talked about things they’d lost It was goin’ well ‘til her eyes went crossed. Then her voice slurred and she chuckled Started to rise an’ her left knee buckled. J.D. thought”Oh,Lord, what have I done? This plan backfired an’ it don’t look like fun.” He sat her in the saddle, tied up straight. Headed for home, was getting’ late. She’s sober by the time they got down. Looked pretty good ridin’ through town. Took her to the door, a sheepish grin, He knew his welcome was wearin’ thin. She said,”Nice try. I liked ridin’ Mabel. Next time bring roses. Forget the Black Label!” He learned new ways to court a lady, That was long ago, he’s pushin’ eighty. She’s a judge, knows all the manuals They laugh now an’ then about Jack Daniels! April, 2016
