False Geisha
Her face was splurged with white powder An illusion of mask under the white cover Red and black accents her eyes and brows Lips like flower buds cool in the afterglow Like a maiko pursuing her ardent dream To dance the kabuki, to entertain and sing With heart raring to show her artisan piece A special performer hired for men to please She started learning while watching How to amuse by conversing and gaming Calculated motions of pouring wine or tea Polite gestures for men lusting secretly As she progressed in pursuit of her art She left for Japan to practice her craft She’s not supposed to feel nor want She knows her art, she knows her part With a pair of eyes like a black deep abyss Not one can read her pain and anguish An innocent face shrouded with secrets A beauty that haunts not one to forget How she wished her geisha story is true Viewed with respect by this society so cruel Not a beauty envied but mocked with disdain Not a woman marked with an ugly stain The will to survive, the need to live She’s got needs and a family to feed Like a man’s toy, just a piece of meat She hates it but accepts her defeat She’ll let men bleed and beg for more She’s out for revenge and raged a war She will not let love consume her life She’ll not let any man make her a wife She fell for one but there’s no hope She cannot love, it will not work A true geisha she is only in dreams A courtesan in Japan is what she really is!
