They Told of a Dance
They told of a dance Down by wells in the land of Odek, the women told of a dance Heads swinging. Asses swaying. Legs tapping They say it was a rear night dance A cold black silent night That was the night as was before the dance Then the dance drums were sounded Missiles pounding. Guns yapping. Bombs booming. And that was when the dancers appeared From far and wide. The small and wide. The shy and pride They came as childs and came as grown ups And so they say, that the dance then started The said the campfire was cold and dead But the night was bright as any of a dance Grenades igniting. Huts blazing. Bullets flaring And the excited voices of dancers could be heard Children crying. Women screaming. Elders sobbing. So they say it was a dance for all All sweating different shades of crimson By first light, the dance was over but the ground still evident Dogs scavenging. The wind moaning. The army inspecting For it had been a dance like none before Matches were not made but such were broken Hearts bleeding. Eyes welling. The gods sleeping Am not sure if I understood them But they spoke of a dance
