The Only Road I'Ve Ever Known
A different way for every body, A different path for every soul, Occasionally they intermingle, But most the time I stand alone. Behind me looms a twisted wonderland, Before me only stark darkness I see. But the one thing, striking, out of it all is this road that belongs to me. Turning back toward where I've come I see the cracks, forks, and bends Reminding me of that past, warning me not to go there again. Far beyond that luscious void are those distant sparkling lights, Those are the roads of others, they are far safer than mine. I turn back again to future, the footpath that is yet to be worn, Just another bend to take, have to make it through another storm, Across a desert of isolation, my thirst for company immense, When at yet another fork stands a stranger, with eyes and a look intense. Body sings a harmonious tune, Train of thought killing the beautiful groove. Untrusting eyes met by ones of warmth, He smiles at me wide, His goofy grin and happy eyes melt the ice built up inside, Continuing along my road, where his has intertwined, We've met more bumps than ever, but stubborness has sufficed. Small lapse of times when our roads do not met, but not currently a permanent departure, I believe this road, the only one I've ever known, with his presence has gotten brighter.
