I Wish That I Was a Mountain
I wish that I was a mountain A lofty and elegant one With my roots deep in the earth A crown of cloud bestowed on my dome I wish that I was the Alps, with creased peaks Arm in arms with all the other mountains Built a tower of epic legacy of a knight who saved the world once in his shiny armor on a horse I wish that I was a mountain A mountain painted lavender concealed my nudity with Persian patterns bruised chest Tulips and wildflowers of a dry summer I wish that I was a mountain My arms open as wide as my mind My grass hoppers and butterflies Weren’t ashamed to make love On the rooftop of the central mosque I wish that I was a mountain Springs of clear water Streamed through my skin Captive aquarium fish Grew wings to jump into my border less creeks I wish that I was a mountain But my heart wasn’t out of stone I wish I always had room Inside my rocky caves For the weary black sparrows I wish that I was a mountain So the homeless people could always sell used books In the obscure narrow paths of my flesh Where my tired pilgrims tied strings of their ancient dreams To the branches of the Acacia planted in the courtyard of my heart I wish that I was a mountain Every morning at sunrise Northern winds sang me stories of the exotic towns While storks holding new born babies Gossiped about the ominous ugly crows I wish that I was a mountain But my heart wasn’t made out of stone That not even one single person on the earth ever thought Falling in love was wrong That joyous songs, twirled in our sky That every little girl in our street Had puffy skirts In scarlet, orange and emerald I wish I was a mountain I really want to be a mountain
