Untouched by light, like the couple. Who were brought together for a reason. It was unknown. Did their enemy know why? Was he responsible? He was for making them closer when he chose to antagonise her new love interest, who was soon the permanent love interest. His mania was unfounded and brought on and controlled by his jealousy. This why the couple moved to their tower. It was safe, offered great views and had an excellent entertainment system. They lived a basic life and it was fine. What mattered was having each other. His lady, her ex had no one, just his twisted hate and jealousy. Poor evil dangerous creature.
