Veteran Who Himself Had Shot
Veteran Who Himself Had Shot Had a low number in a draft choice One of first to go and did not rejoice He had lived in a foxhole made in hell After horrible fate upon him finally fell. Yet still ever after he was sworn in He would be willing to do it again Foxhole full of discomfort had become Returned home and would be a bum. Ended up in park under bench table He who joined service willing and able Was lonely and no escape left for him Killed himself one day when light was dim. His body shook wherever you would look And by heroin had been held by its hook Which for him was truly so hard to bare Whatever he did was downhill from there. This story thought I should share with you When a valiant veteran you happen to view Remember in battle how hard he had fought And then in the end himself he had shot. This poem should make you think about the plight of some Veterans. To know a veteran, do you have to be one yourself. No, because they are humans just like everyone else.
