Follow Your Heart
What is more important the future or the past? Where loves concerned, and three people are the cast One had been devoted and loved me many years The other had my heart, and I had to be near Emotions overtook me, which one should I follow Love made me feel alive, but the guilt makes me feel shallow My wife through the years, helped make me who I am The other had my heart, which made it hard to take a stand For too many years I fought this battle, within myself of course Hoping time and understanding would relieve my remorse As time went on it happened, wife and family came around They understood I had to be where my heart was bound But time had also taken, its toll on my lover She was tired of waiting, and tired of being the other Although the time had come, to now become as one She said, “Love should not be this hard, so I’m moving on" Our time together was very good, but at times also tough Now our quest for happiness would no longer be as rough So it has been very hard to accept and understand Why fight the battle, then walk away, with victory at hand An uncomplicated partner is now what pleases her So she took the path, that was easier Anything in life worth having, is worth fighting hard to keep These are the words I tell myself if I start to weep Don’t be like me, with body and soul now divided I would still have my love, if sooner I decided To do what made me happiest, and best for all concerned Now life is without the one I love, only a lesson learned My advice to anyone who has to decide Don’t take too long thinking, and moving side to side This lesson in life, I wish I knew it at the start If you have a chance at love…always follow your heart
