I'M a Cinderella
Once upon a time All was well and the well was full I have known but only happiness And was taught to be kind And to kindle, and to love I was taught to be good But I’m a Cinderella I walk on thorns and expected not to bleed I sleep in the rain and expected not to get a cold I walk on burning coals and expected not to get burnt I look at the solar eclipse and expect to never go blind I walk, but I keep walking For giving up, is a foreign concept to me And I’m a Cinderella I have to admit that sometimes I run away Only in my thoughts ‘Cause my legs cannot carry me any further In my thoughts I see a festive celebration I walk on flowers and sleep on the soft grass In my thoughts, I tell you, I am sooo happy But I’m a Cinderella What was supposed to be my bread Is thrown to the ground and stepped on.... Before I could eat, or even touch I’m young and have no plans, they say I’m ugly, my eyes deceive me, they say I’m so dumb, that I don’t even realize that I’m dumb, they say How can I walk with such confidence When I come out of a rubbish bin, they ask I’m not worthy of even having “work” to do, they say But oh, I’m a Cinderella Just waiting for my fairy God Mother to appear So that one day, I can live happily ever after Written on 14 August 2015
