The Ether
I do. I recall. We were a real-life family. We shared our days Our nights, our meals. our conversations, hopes. Dreams, jokes, tears & fears. And then it arrived. Social Media. Too quickly, we all retreated into our Mucky, microcosmic, phone-shaped spaces. And now, our voices are silent, muted, unheard. Our fingers flattened by the steady tapping of keys And our senses numbed by visions of cats and killings Epic fails and endless funnies, moronic merry-go-rounds pointless platitudes and expert advice which we seem to trust. We live in the same space, & yet we co-exist on different planets. What, then, does the future hold if we are to hold fast to Moore’s Law? If the power of the computer continues to double at the current rate It holds that our generation will witness the dawning of the day Which heralds the demise of our sense and all of our senses The loss of touch and feel, of love, lust, smell and taste. Gone will be word of mouth and the voice of reason The hands of friendship and the kiss of your lover No longer to gaze into the window of the soul Our eyes a hollow reflection of the screen What then will a friend even resemble? Where then will you even find one? Why then the need to embrace and how would you upload the reality of love into your memory bank of all flesh-with the end of all flesh upon us ??
