''I Had To Get Low To Find Myself''
My brother brought George home one day, I heard their bikes rumbling and roaring loud; And then there he was standing in my driveway, He was a God in black leather, a bad boy so proud . I think it was at that very moment I fell in love, and the sky filled with cloud. The very next day he came looking for me, We went on his bike to see pretty country scenery; Against advice, I moved in with him and I was happy, My brother, my parents, my friends told me he was gangly. At first, it was perfect I thought myself blessed, I did not know about the drinking or the bad temper; Then one day, he came home drunk and in a real mess, It was the beginning of a downward spiral into surrender. I lost myself somewhere and I was so low in the trap, seemed life would never get better. I was ashamed to call my family for some help, When he broke my nose I crawled home to mother; My parents were frantic and in their arms I found self. I had lost everything, my job, money, clothes, in this blunder. My parents put me to bed and slowly I found hope, I will never forget my Dad taking me shopping at Sears; He bought me a whole new wardrobe, they were my lifeboat, When I was healed, I got a job and still I think about those years. How I had to struggle to find me again, to find my words, the poems trapped in my bleeding tears. It took time but I emerged from the tangled nightmare, I found the butterfly dwelling within, it was all so very clear; All part of this journey, lessons to learn and the power of prayer. To this day I am careful who I let into my life, I still have some fear. __________________________ July 20, 2015 Poetry/Rhyme/"I had to get low to find myself" Copyright Protected, ID 15-692-350-0 All Rights Reserved.
