Homecoming
As I took those first few steps off the plane, I felt something in my chest cringe in pain. When I set foot on the tarmac, I realized that what I saw was a car wreck of the nation that I had been fighting for. Looking around, I realized that these people I had been fighting to protect, were no better than the enemy. They waved their signs, they called me names, they mocked my trial in flames. they said I went and fought for the rich mans gain. it was wondrous to me how much the world seemed to have changed. Where once they would have welcomed me home with open arms, they instead mocked and scorned. but still a sliver of hope remained. As I shifted my gaze towards others in the crowd, I saw old glory wave. There stood true Americans, who understood that I went over there for you. So go ahead and call me names, insult me and my family name! you may think that you've hurt me, but to those that matter, I've just gone down in the hall of fame.
