From the First Time
From the first time I saw you I knew you were the one From the first time we locked eyes I knew you were mine From the first time we spoke I knew that you were more than one of my 'bros' Like a thief acting in the night you stole my heart Your smile was what bark is to a tree - A source of comfort from the good and the bad, the hot and the cold. Just knowing you changed me Like a potter's hands turning clay into something beautiful I was like grains of sand on a beach, following the wind with no sense of direction or my final destination. But you came along and made me into something magical, like a glass-maker turning sand into glass. But like a bird, you flew away at the first sign of danger. I heard your footsteps like the crack and the snap of breaking branches. I wanted pity from people. I was not okay and went back to my old ways. Ways that lead me astray. Then I heard your footsteps again, like the soft pitter patter of rain. Hopefully you are here to stay cause I still have so much to say. And now here we are- Lucky I didn't drown. Lucky that you came before all of this affected my brain. Cause baby being with you is like having all my wishes come true. And oh, If I had a dime for every moment I thought about From the first time..
