Compassion
I'd spent the day down at the market and seen me sheep get sold, And I'd got a pretty good price for the seven six months old, So I bought some treats for those at home to celebrate me luck, Then I climbed up in the cabin and drove off in me truck. I suppose that I was half way home when I seen near the road, Two blokes on their hands and knees, past where the council mowed, I wondered what the two were up to, so I couldn't let this pass, And when I got up close to them, I could see they're eating grass. I must admit that I was shocked for grass is not our staple diet, And I must admit no matter what, I don't think I would try it, Of course I got inquisitive "Is that grass you're eating mate?" And he replied, "My oath it is, and just now it's tasting great". I was stunned but understood, when he added to his plight "It's all we have, we have no money, and then he took another bite". So I couldn't leave these poor folk here, to graze like cattle do. I said to them "Please come with me, for I would like to feed you". But the pair of them were hesitant after hearing my request, And said that they appreciate my invitation as a guest, But they both have wives and children with whom they both belong. I said, "Go and round them up, I'd like youse all to come along". These poor folk need a helping hand that are riding in me truck, And seeing that they all ate grass had brought me a stroke of luck, For you see I had forgotten, one reason why I went to town, I'm supposed to buy a set of points, 'cause me mowers broken down.
