Reading
My fingertips graze against the smooth spines Of so many friends, stories, and realms All in the comfort of my home Waiting Sunlight from the large windows illuminate my haven My feet raise to their tiptoes Allowing for me to reach Reach for the comfort of another life I pull my newest addiction from its perch Allowing it to gracefully fall into my arms Like a starved lion, I make my way to the window sill To devour this gazelle Warmth radiates from the kiss of sun Whilst I reveal secrets hidden in rough, thick binding Fresh paper and ink have no better recognition than scent Unless that ink coats your fingers The rustle of turning pages fill the void Allowing me to slip away for just one moment Before a familiar pain radiates through me Blood wells up along the cut I raise my finger to my lips A strong, metallic taste dances on my tongue Assessing the damage A red stain tries to blot out ‘you’
