Pandora
Without meaning to, you tore me to shreds, I now listen to sporadic rain outside as it pitter-patters, And I think, land sakes alive, land sakes alive, It’s the thought of you alone that matters. And then there are the echoed corpses of all you said, The once leading lights that have shrunk and now shatter, And I laugh without cause or meaning and it isn’t funny, It’s the thought of you alone that matters. Thoughtlessly, you left and you emptied my place, In the back of my brain a dustbin falls down steps and clatters, And I think, oh damn you to hell, oh damn you to hell, It’s the thought of you alone that matters. And then there are the rags of your once innocent face, The reflected ribbons of inner thoughts driven mad as hatters, And I know in the shimmer of dying hope I can’t make it, It’s the thought of you alone that matters. Pandora so missed her box she opened the lids of my eyes, Showed them monster sights eventually sucked dry of feeling, And I think, give me a break, give me a break, In an upside down world I could lie on the ceiling? And as innocence left you, you formulated cold arabesque lies, And landed me a killer sucker punch that left me reeling, And although you once said I’ve got a heart made of metal, You would know otherwise if you could feel what I’m feeling.
