Humanity's Puppeteer
In last night’s dream I found One million strings Holding up things And to my hands they were bound So suddenly I became The head puppeteer For the new year Although each thread looked the same Which meant every decision On our whole globe Was mine to probe But I lacked moral vision Plus my weak hands loved to shake As the world stood still Until I found the will And that one string I did take Then one more, then another ‘Til I held many Yet still loathed any Of which stress made me shudder As the burden was too much And every string crossed Soon all would be lost In a world that I did clutch And then many wars began Plus storms and flooding For strings were tugging So I let them go, and ran I then woke in a cold sweat Yet was so relieved And now remained pleased As a simple old puppet For John's Puppet contest
