My Dad's Wooden Cross
I slept with it right at my chest last night... Sometimes I would wake up and make sure it didn't leave my side or fall upon the floor. It was my dad's wooden cross and he took it with him everywhere before he died. I remember checking him into the hospital one afternoon. He said, "Gwennie, be sure you place that cross on the wall somewhere so that I can always see it!" It was certainly an object of comfort for him. Of course I always wanted to make my dad happy and so I always complied. After a long string of hospitalizations I already knew what was expected of me. Take the wooden cross and place it within an eye-shot of my dad's beautiful blue eyes. I was sure to take this cross from his room the day that he died. I removed it from the wall in the hospital where I worked and tucked it carefully inside my work bag. What an honor to have my dad's old cross! I slept with it last night as the pressures of the world seem so heavy. It brought me great relief as I held it and prayed to the One who actually hung upon it. He knows my every need. He is my Lord and Savior. He is my Everything--Jesus! Gwendolen Rix 12-8-14
