When Will the Rain Come 'Africa
Written by Mpho Leteng(Botswana), Donald Kuutsi(Zimbabwe) and Blessing Masora(Zimbabwe) The white sees pour holy rites from the mountain bald, Begging gods for release of the fall heavens enthralled, But for the long we waited; nerves taut as the strings of a recurvebow! When will the rain come ‘Africa? When will rainwater do up our acreage piece? Deeply distending flows to wound the soiled up crease, Thick falls, well-built burly rain to heal the populaces bleat Or few sympathetic drops to serene the resentment of a regular heat! Oh Lord! Why hast thou forsaken us? Listen to our fading auscultations as we P.our O.ut E.motions T.o R.each Y.ou, Ink runs from the corners of mouth in patent calling of satiating our thirst But I can feel the heat still; the radiation heating my body, I’m alive but my soul feels half dead, I can’t feel my feet! Scorched by this sun When will the rain come ‘Africa!? Too long we waited and waited for so long still; Oh lord, we have waited for so long! Loosen our York of inequity And spare us from the jaws of Poverty Have mercy on us Lord! Withhold fury Poured out like fire! And let it rain to wash away the transgressions bounded into a York, Let it rain for us to have bread and wine, To revel in wets and dine; LET IT RAIN
