The Last Highway
By Laura Dee Battle November 21, 2014 In this farewell there's no tears in my eyes There's no regretting what I could have been Because I've silenced my forbidden voice with lies Patched up this quilt of love deep inside the lions den Spotlights lead the way into days of sober moments Saying they're just omens that the Angels never sent Demons dance and pray the power lines will fail today But signals shining through the the rainy day delays of yesterday Clearings in the fog show me signs I've never seen Teens are peaking through the lives they used to dream I cannot keep on shutting out the pain of staying clean So part the clouds and let them see the light between the seams I'm scared far more then you could possibly realize If I think about this anymore in gonna lose my mind I'm as sure as I could ever hope to be in the reflection of your eyes Through this distress I'll keep staring into the shine; even if it drives me blind The lone tree of life is sitting alone in the side of this forgotten road Straight into the fog I'm following the voices in the dial tone The ones that picked me up every place where the asphalt eroded Just another highway full of holes I need to drive on my own [Listening to "What I've Done" by Linkin Park]
