Walking the Streets of Denver
Called away to another city very much like my own Denver, Colorado Walked the streets and talked to the least of these Offered them hope in the Lord Many nestled up against doorways sipping on gin and hitting the butts of cigarettes Never nit-pickin’ like their wealthy counterparts I sat down too right up within the entrances and tried to get a sense Of what they go through All in ten minute snippets of time Many shared their stories of running away from home when they were so young Many of them had key people in their lives run out on them Heart shattering circumstances paralyzed them emotionally and economically Sexual molestation, physical abuse They had difficulty pulling through “Johnny gets out of detox at two,” I overheard Some shared their faith in Jesus Others shared their faith in liquor Respect was mutual as not a single soul turned down prayer They get two hot meals a day served at the parish They all congregate there.... It was the most enthusiastic moments of their day To share their stories of pain and deliverance over soup and beans I felt as though I took a piece of their hearts with me As I traveled back to my hotel Half of them waved goodbye to me as we parted after the noonday sun Thank you for this wonderful day, Lord I would do it all over again too If I didn’t have to get back to my own city that has similar issues There are starving people there and children without proper shoes It’s one day at a time One soul at a time Jesus will deliver them all if they would just reach up to Him He just wants to be their everything!
