The Bravest Boy
Where did it come from? How could he acquire in just six years of life the courage of a man? Why did he not flee to save his little life when he saw the bad man reload? Why did he urge his classmates to break out of their frozen fear and race to safety and long lives while he stayed, unafraid... defiant of death itself? The evil that day was as black as it comes, but the light in the child shone brighter than ten million million suns and streams of angels cheered as his fearless soul soared high to heaven. (This poem was written in honor of A TRUE HERO: 6 year old Jesse Lewis who gave his very young life to save the lives of several of his classmates by telling them to run when the Sandy Hook killer was reloading his gun. I would be amazed at such courage in one of any age, but to find it in a first-grader is amazing, and to this poet it indicates a soul of exceptional bravery. )
