Where the Poppies Grow
Nearly 100 years ago Poppies did not grow On the fields where we are now dead Our bodies lay like lead On the field where the poppies grow Life as a soldier was ever so tough Because one would be dead, soon enough And if you think your life is hard Come with us and stay on guard On the field where the poppies grow Smiles wiped from our face Like a worm, frowns scramble in their place With every thunder of the rain Another bullet sends us into miserable pain On the field where the poppies grow 'Cause of the misery, pain And unnecessary strain Life is rough And ever so tough On the field where the poppies grow As the bullets did cry Limbs did fly Far away To rest, not play On the field where the poppies grow Remember I hope All the time we did devote To the battle that we finally won Where many parents lost a son On the field where the poppies grow Now the cross All covered in moss Is the only way to remember us all Where we all did fall On the field where the poppies grow Buses, taxis and cars Technology has gone far We should have experienced this But instead we lay in hoped eternal bliss On the field where the poppies grow I weep, I cry I am not going to lie I hoped to survive To finally be able to smile Not to lie on the field where the poppies grow "do as your told! Ignore the dreaded cold! The you'll survive" But why, oh why did I die? Lying here... On the field... Where the poppies... Grow
