Innocence Taken
Dad, Dad why- Did you have to be that kind of guy? I only wanted FATHERLY love. I was such a little girl, innocent, and so, so shy! Dad, why THAT kind of a guy? On the outside, the perfect family man, Inside-all the secrets, all the lies- Oh Dad, why THAT kind of guy? Is that why you had the music up so high? So no one would ever hear me cry? You were the love of Mom's life, the two of you so happy together- So out of love for mom, and some frightening fear, I kept that secret for 45 years. I'm so sorry Mom! I was too frightened to tell! It was so long ago. I can't remember why- I cannot remember why... Now that secret has your heart broken, and my brother hurt too- No one has benefitted, not another word spoken. My Dad, a good man in many ways, and I, a little girl who loved him. I just wanted his love the FATHERLY WAY.
