A Greedy Child
Upwards, upwards, upwards I climb, Scaling up the kitchen chair Advancing the precipice and my crime Of the massive height I could not care Chubby legs support my tiny form Tiny pink fingers grip the dark wood Eyes pull level with puddings warm On chair back my little form stood Gasping the prize, one in each hand A smile on my face for all to see Now with my legs I start to descend From my mischief I’m almost free But my feet all be-socked, skid away Free falling was I, right down the chair My prize I will not release, oh no way So the brunt of the fall my face did bare Onto concrete floor with a thud dull Then silence through out the room My teeth pushed into my skull Out of my mouth the blood did bloom Mother so worried, as I start to scream In she came rushing to my aid Still from my mouth blood doth stream Oh what a commotion my mischief made Off to the wards my little soul went Parents trailing in my red wake My angelic face was twisted and bent Oh what a mess my mischief did make Surgeons and nurses were attended my bed Fixing and stitching my poor face wreck Changing my pillows and sheets all red Awoken at night for my hourly health check My love for the puddings is with me still But no longer for them the heights I climb I can now wait till I can eat my fill Because everything comes to those with time.
