She Held Onto Tomorrow
They left her alone, Standing, Freezing in the down pour, Just a summer vest and tan open toes, She wasn't prepared for the way the world was about to go, Lips blue, Shakin all over like a junkie does, She lives in a different world to us, Waitin forever on that damn circuit bus, And when she gets home Theres no one there to let her in, But the t.vs on loud and the lights are dimmed And all the empty bottles lie deep in the kitchen bin, So she turns up the lights and lifts her chin. And they've no idea They don't know how much she brakes, She gives them all her soul and all they take, But the tears wont hold for long. She sits alone, With life off and silence switched on Just to drown out the day with life's own soothing song, It cleans her of her pain. her strenght sustains, Because she finds solace in another day While the vodka takes their souls away She cradles their shadows like a sun ray, While playing that Tracey Chapman on repeat. A fast car to take her out of here and these lethal streets, She needs to fix whatever is weak But she can't fix herself. Not looking for wealth, She gets up to fight another day Knowing another black evening is on its way, Knowing she can't beat vodka for curing their sorrows, Still, she won't give up, She'll hold on till tomorrow.
