The Path I Chose
'I have seen what the world has to offer and have indulged in its many guilty pleasures. I have enjoyed myself immensely but the end thereof was as bitter as gall.' Through self righteous eyes I thought my ways were right Pursuing after vanities and all that gave my heart delight The path I chose was pleasing in my sight Like a nocturnal creature I ventured into the night My wicked ways I did not want prying eyes to see I never stopped to think what the consequences of my actions would be Now that I've had my fill of it all What has it profited me? Without warning came my sudden downfall I toiled without relent to do iniquity Seeking after worldly pleasures and chasing after vanity Who was there to stand with me When I fell in the pit of calamity? Was I not surrounded by many friends When I was thriving in prosperity? But a fool I was not to accept correction When warned about my stupidity My stubborn heart only led to disaster And I learned a lesson in humility Everything was meaningless and all in vain I gave into the world when there was nothing to gain The work of my hands brought upon me guilt, regret and shame After all that's said and done I only have myself to blame
