He Came Back Home
Dishevelled and disgraced With faltering steps he traced The way back home. His lean frame a silhouette Which his father's eyes had met As he came back home He had squandered all he had And now in torn rags was clad As he came back home He had drunk the finest wine But then shared the food of swine So he came back home He bowed his head in shame When his father, running, came To lead him home The tears poured down his face Held by his fathers strong embrace Who whispered "son, you're home" His son said, falling to his knees, "It is to serve you father, please. That I have come back home" " It is not right you call me son, For I have sinned in all I've done Since I left home" "Son, for this day I've yearned, And at last you have returned, To your true home" "Yes, you had turned away from me But now your sinful ways you see, And you have come back home" "So we will feast and trumpet sound For he I thought was lost, is found And now is home" So for all who read these lines Who choose darkness over light Know your failings and your crimes Don't keep you from your Fathers sight For he watches and he waits For that figure on the hill That with repentant heart Humbly seeks the Father still And his arms will open wide As you whisper " Lord, forgive" He will stem your tearful tide And bring you Home to live.
