Don Ennis An editor from ABC news Had a case of the transgender blues He showed up in a dress and a wig And swore he had not had a swig Claiming that he had begun Hormone therapy 101 He said that the line had been drawn He wanted to now be called Dawn He felt he was a woman trapped Within a male body wrapped He said he’s splitting from his wife And planned to live a woman’s life But three months later – change of heart Said he woke up with a start Said his mind was just a blank Thought his wife had played a prank Dressed him up in bra and wig Fake ID with DAWN typed big But undressed – looking in the mirror Don Ennis saw things so much clearer For there were boobs where hair had been Boobs you wouldn’t find on men Hormone imbalance had done the trick And hormones just might make it stick He said that now he understood To be a man – a man for good He’d have to change his chemistry And undergo some therapy His three month change a wondrous gift But back to man he had to shift He said he would remain a straight And lead the fight on those who hate But as for him he would admit A woman’s life just didn’t fit Months pass - - - Then in a note to just a friend He said I’m changing course again Don Ennis has the gender blues The truth told by ABC News
