This Smile
This Smile By Kevin Robey June, 23, 2013 I’m all alone, can’t touch me here I see you below me, looking down Your search so close but nowhere near Can’t you see that I’ll never be found? Too far away, I can’t touch them now The plans I made to come back down The words I spoke these demons won’t allow If they had their say, I’d never leave this town I’m floating right now; feet above the ground My oxygen was cut off by this severed tether Don’t know how they pass by without a sound And blindly sail into the chaotic weather Too tired pass off a manufactured smile It’s time to decide which way I will fall I’ll never have the smile the angels will file To sail every time that the wind may call Had I known the pain that this path would show I would have turned around and never looked back I could have plunged my weary mind six feet below My only hope is the world will soon fade to black So save me from this world, and from myself Hear my cries knowing one day I’ll find peace It’s ok when I name the heir to all of my wealth And I allow these words to be my final release Maybe there’s more to this than what I see More to this than fleeting moments of bliss Hope that can defeat the demons inside of me To find all that I missed inside that special kiss Like everything else these moments are fleeting at best Attest this fact by the rest of what I’ve confessed There is no single state of mind for what I’ve addressed So I wear this on my chest, all the thoughts I can’t digest
