Let Us Rest In the Shade
Let us cross the river, And rest in the shade of the trees. Yes, General, you just lead the way, And we'll follow, by and by, When with this madness we are done, And our bloody swords are laid aside. Let us cross the river, And rest in the shade of the trees. Yes, General, we will join you there, In just a little while, When through this wilderness of hell We have fought and bled our final mile. Let us cross the river, And rest in the shade of the trees. But, General, we must struggle on; Our battle is not done. We we’ll meet you, across the river, Beneath the trees, at set of sun. Let us cross the river, And rest in the shade of the trees. Then Old Jack closed his fevered eyes, And crossed the river wide. The valiant Stonewall found his rest, Beneath the trees on the other side. Let us cross the river, And rest in the shade of the trees.
